As May approaches 81 of our project teachers prepare for the final assessments to qualify for a Certificate in Indigenous Knowledge for School Education, accredited by Indira Gandhi National Open University. This represents a great achievement for these young teachers from tribal villages as well as an exciting prospect for inclusive education, as they will be the first cohort to complete this specialised training.

The project recieved some very special visitors on April 29th as 15 colleagues from the Baroda District State Education Deprtment spent a day at the Adivasi Academy at Tedgadh. In response to the Indian Right to Education Act we are working ever more closely with state providers to secure ongoing inclusion for our tribal learners. As well as visiting staff at the Academy, the group was able to see some teacher training in action and enjoy discussions with John Towers, our Director of Education, regarding ongoing collaboration in the future.

Having written a full suite of bespoke high quality lesson planning to cover the primary mathematics curriculum, we are now developing a similar suite of resources to exemplify quality teaching in language and environment sciences. We have written and delivered, via teaching training, a resource across 44 primary mathematics themes in both Gujarati and English. A further 17 themes in Language and Science planning are in development, to be rolled out in our Centres over the next quarter.

Our Teacher Training Programme in Gujarat has gathered place and now takes place at the Adivasy Tribal Academy at Tedgadh five days per week. Our team on the ground has been enhanced by a third Education Programme Manager, with Katherine Butt joining us from a successful career in primary education, most recently as a School Improvement Advisor for the Blaenau-Gwent Education Authority.
